It’s been one year since the historic General Conference

Dear Justice-Seeker,

As United Methodists head into Annual Conference season, we’ve been reflecting on what it means to work for justice in a world often marked by struggle and resistance.

More than a century ago, amid rising movements for labor rights and social reform, Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA) was born from a vision—a belief that faith calls us not to stand by passively and get pushed around, but to engage deeply, to lift up the voices of the marginalized, and to challenge the systems that perpetuate injustice.

Think back to where we were six years ago: Following the 2019 General Conference, many of us felt disheartened and lost within our own denomination. Decisions made then seemed to undermine years of hard-won progress toward inclusion, compassion, and justice, leaving us questioning the future of our work and our commitment as a denomination to stand with those at the margins.

But you stayed. You organized, gave, marched, spoke up, and refused to let injustice have the final word.

And now, a year after a historic General Conference, we find ourselves renewed in purpose and hope. Grounded in a spirit of care, love, and trust, this conference embraced a vision of justice and inclusion. It was a turning point. Together, we removed harmful anti-LGBTQ+ language from our Book of Discipline. We opened the door to regionalization, allowing contextual ministry around the globe. We celebrated the leadership of queer and progressive delegates. And we affirmed, in unmistakable ways, that justice and inclusion are not fringe values—they are central to who we are becoming.

We are following the teachings of Christ—welcomed the outsider and challenged systems of oppression—with greater clarity and courage than ever before. We know the fight isn't over. New challenges have emerged, and old forces of discrimination still linger. But we are not alone—and we are not without power.

The Methodist Federation for Social Action has never been about quick wins or easy fixes. For over 100 years, we've stood alongside those pushed to the margins—believing that faith demands more than silence in the face of injustice. We are here for the long haul, continuing to work for a church and world where all are truly free.

Injustice and resistance remain. Yet, with people like you—those who support and advocate for others, who give of themselves to see justice done—we believe our vision for a just, equitable, and compassionate world can, and will, be realized.

Your gift today is not just a contribution—it’s a partnership in the journey toward a world where justice, equity, and compassion shape every corner of our faith and our communities. I invite you to join us, to give as you are able, and to affirm that this work for justice is an integral part of our call to love our neighbor.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

With gratitude and hope,
